What is this deep experience?
I’m sitting in a sandy, willow shade canopy along the Rio Grande with a smooth ledge of volcanic rock as my desk chair. I climbed down a 1,000 foot canyon to arrive at this moment in time. A neon-hued oriole filled with summer verve has replaced my Spotify playlist. He is so beautiful my mind labels him unreal.
There is no sense of hurry, no urgency to get back for a non-existent appointment penciled in by my own intrusive anxiety butting in on my day off.
I’m hiking. I’m here. I’m planted.
Last night I had all the peace of an over-caffeinated honey badger, a vague sense of discontent coursing through my veins for no good reason at all.
Whiplash to today and you’d think a unicorn dosed me with MDMA in my sleep–the colors are jewel vivid and an irrational love for the world runs deeps. Such is my nature as an HSP.
Like the spring G5 solar storms which resulted in the rare Northern Lights display across the globe, I too am susceptible to whatever geomagnetic forces influence my mind’s interpretation of a good or bad day.
Stay grounded, but changeable.
Yesterday was not so good. Today may be great. Who knows what tomorrow will bring. Expecting any one thing is about as sensible as demanding the wild Rio Grande roaring beside me heel like a well-trained golden retriever. Its unbridled rawness is its power.
As a Highly Sensitive Person, the wild freedom of your own deep experience is your power; it’s your gift. You’re going to have days that work for you, and days that feel like the hardest work of your life. And that’s okay.
You were born to feel. All of it.
You are more than your experiences.
You are more than your emotional state. And you are capable of rising above emotional intensity to tap into the current of your greatest vision for your life.
Keep walking in the direction of resilience, stay committed to emotional regulation (which allows you to steer the boat on top of the river, rather than sinking below), and keep strengthening your spirit by dedicating time to doing the things you love.
And if you need any help, I’m right here.
Much Love,
Kristy Sweetland
