The purpose of coaching is to guide a person to reach their dreams, no matter how big or small. As a coach, I do this by listening to the dreams of my clients, mirroring patterns of destructive linguistics so those patterns can shift immediately (we abuse ourselves verbally without even knowing we’re doing it), helping a person to expand their sphere of influence by breaking out of limiting beliefs & behaviors, setting goals or action steps together, and then encouraging my client to remain accountable to those goals. I help my clients focus on their dreams- the prize- understanding that everybody has within them the inherent drive to succeed, if only they could learn to bypass those negative internal forces which tend to whisper in their ear all the reasons to fail, sometimes much louder than the voice that says go for it. Easy enough, right?
Not always.
What if a person has no idea what their dreams are? What if they’ve been quiet for so long, they’ve forgotten what their passions are? Does a person lose the ability to identify their intrinsic motivators? Do these motivators extinguish if gone unused for so long?
The answer to that is no. Never. Our dreams never die, they just go to sleep. But sleep is temporary and from it we’ll awaken. We just have to want it. We have to wish for that fire to return, and it will.
Now, for me, losing sight of my dreams has never been an issue. For me, the problem has always been working to find a way to narrow that torrent to a workable flow. In the past, my life was been about struggling to hold onto that fire-hose, without completely losing control and getting myself killed. At this point in my life I’ve narrowed it down to a few great loves: nature, photography, writing, transpersonal psychology, and coaching others to find their freedom from disharmony.
Why I do this work is because it’s more than a passion for me. It’s a soul-calling. I truly believe that we’ll shift this planet into a heart-centered place of existance, where we’ll live within the laws of Nature rather than waging war against it, where we’ll understand that there will always be enough for everybody as long as we make heart-centered decisions, and we can do this collectively if we can only wake up to the true nature of our soul’s calling. We are that powerful.
So. If you find yourself desiring a wakeup call- a jumpstart- back to your own spirit, let me know. I’d love to help.
Happy Earth Day.
