We are electrical beings with an energy field designed to attract metaphysical lint. It’s how we receive information, it feeds our intuition, it holds our authentic blueprint, but it also collects debris we have no use for, and we have to know how to keep it polished. Today in our every day chaotic world this is essential. Keeping our energy fortified and protected– so we’re living our life, not somebody else’s– needs to be a daily routine for the Highly Sensitive Person, especially if you also happen to be an empath.
Sometimes I’m guilty of forgetting to talk about the ground-level essentials. Recently I’ve asked a few clients how they fortify their energy field, receiving nothing but blank stares and hard blinks in response. So, I vowed to write a quick few words on creating the foundation for boundary protection, so important in our current state of evolutionary consciousness where Light and Dark are struggling to find a working balance, inside, outside, and all around us.
These ten recommendations are what I believe keep my energy field strong, which allows me to be mentally and spiritually resourceful through this cosmic roller coaster we call life.
1.) Create a daily spiritual ritual. This can mean anything that helps you reach a higher state of consciousness. For me it entails lighting my altar candles, opening the Sacred Directions, calling in the archangels, and having a heart to heart with God. But honestly, there is no wrong answer for what connects you. And I believe you can create a practice to care for your own life-force even if you happen to be atheist.
2.) Take care of your body. I’m not going to suggest to you what that means. We have this sacred vessel, our body, and taking care of it may mean something different to every single person on the planet. Take care of your body. You define the path that feels right.
3.) Eat clean. Empty nutrition creates weakness in the energy field. I recently had my gut biome analyzed to determine exactly what my body can and cannot tolerate. For a few months, I’ve been following my own personalized recommended food list based on the results and I feel so good! I used a company called Viome, and if you’re interested let me know. I have a few coupons for $100.00 off and I’ll give you one if you want to give it a whirl. I get no benefit from endorsing Viome, I have simply witnessed its clear benefits to my energy level and want the same for others.
4.) Stay conscious of your screen time. (And here you are reading my online article!) Just understand that it’s something our society has developed a compulsion with, and compulsions of any kind create soul sickness as we try and try to fill a void that only the compulsion can fill. Too much electronic screen time has also been linked to psychological and physical illness. Please be aware, pay attention, and unplug when you’re feeling depleted.
5.) Find some nature! Immerse yourself in it. I cannot stress how imperative this is to a healthy energy field. You don’t have to physically exert yourself to receive its benefits. There’s a practice born in Japan called Forest Bathing and it’s simply about absorbing the forest. Nature also includes spending some time with any precious being who happens to belong to the animal kingdom. It’s baby lizard time in New Mexico (they’re so cute!) and every time I see one, my whole life lights up.
6.) Read a book an hour a day. (Can’t find an hour? Then make it ten or fifteen minutes.) A strong mind contributes to a strong body, and a union of the two fortifies our energetic boundaries. Bonus points if the reading material is written by high-vibrational, high-consciousness authors writing about universal themes that raise your frequency. More magic, please! I’m going to write a post with many of my favorite titles sometime soon. I get a lot of requests for book recommendations, so I’d like to create one others can easily find.
7.) Talk to plants! So, this is something I’ve always done because I’m a nut for plants. But my Ayurvedic herbalist recently prescribed that I clear my energy field by talking to my plants between my client appointments, and I could seriously feel the clarity. We take our plant beings for granted. Have a conversation with anyone who happens to be green. If you have no domesticated plant family members, choose somebody outside, daily.
8.) Tell your cherished ones how much they’re loved. Frequently. Don’t hold back. Use the actual word. There is a supremely powerful resonance to the word, Love. Sharing it with those you love is fortifying to them, fortifying to you, and creates a kind of speed-dial connection between you and the Universe of Oneness. If there is one thing this world needs, it’s the liberal use of the most powerful word in existence. Love, love love.
9.) Listen to uplifting music. Music makes us feel the full spectrum of emotional resonance and there is no better way to strengthen our energy field than to tap into that. We (especially empaths) become what we listen to, however, so be incredibly mindful of that.
10.) Tell your truth. Be honest. There is an epidemic of blocked throat chakras in our society due to the fact that we repress too much, bend the truth too much, and deny ourselves of what we need to feel alive too much. Don’t be afraid to ask. Ask for what you need, share what’s in your heart, don’t settle for broken. Be truthful with yourself, truthful with others, and ask for truth in return.
Also, some quick but powerful reminders for a quick, refreshing energy boost are to sage your energy field regularly by wafting its smoke gently over you, clear your house with sage (or osha root smoke, or palo santo) weekly, spritz yourself with organic rose water, take sea salt baths with a drop of whatever essential oil you’re sensing you need, or burn a lavender and cedar mix for its protective and cleansing properties. Even if you adopt only one of these measures, you’ll feel the difference.
Love and Hugs!

Wow, Kristy. This is GREAT! While I do many of the activities, I am not in the habit of talking to plants (but tried it silently just now) and would love to increase my reading time. Thanks for the permission! Love you, tjg

Thank you, dear one! You know, many times when I write a blog post it’s about giving myself permission in a way, so I feel you, friend! ?
